Vineyard
Finca Montalvillo.
Between 430 and 700 metres above sea level.
Variable
Vineyards planted on slopes. A vineyard with contained and balanced vigour.
Under the surface layer of organic material there is a very marked horizon of lime that provides nuances of complexity to the grape and wine. It has a good water retention capacity.
Vineyard age: average 10 years.
Inland Mediterranean. The altitude and slope make for more rain and cooler nights in the summer.
Garnacha 80%, Mazuelo 15%, Maturana 5%. * The percentage may vary for each harvest.
Winemaking
Night harvest, by hand and using machines.
Every variety is made into wine separately. The assemblage of all the varieties is a representation of the estate and it expresses the virtues of the vineyard.
After assemblage, the wine spends 6 months in oak to round out and soften the style in the mouth.
Tasting
Appearance: intense ruby red with shimmering violet.
Nose: intense and expressive aromas, a combination of ripe red fruits (raspberry, strawberry, and cherry) from the Garnacha, alongside spicy and floral notes from the Graciano (violets, licorice, pepper). The Mazuelo provides earthy, balsamic nuances and a subtle touch of leather.
Mouthfeel: fresh and balanced with good acidity, firm tannins and along finish with spicy notes.
Combinations:
It’s perfect with grilled meat (lamb, entrecôte), traditional stews and Iberian charcuterie.
It also goes well with cured cheese, sticky rice and spicy dishes like lamb curry or stews with Mediterranean herbs.
